Rhode Island Analyzes Two-Year Study; Considers Combined Reporting

Back in 2011, Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee proposed in his FY2012 budget that the state change its business corporation tax statute to a combined method of reporting. At the time, the proposal drew criticism from the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council (RIPEC), which claimed there wasn’t enough data to evaluate the implementation of combined reporting.

To File or Not to File an Amended Partnership Tax Return Subject to TEFRA?

Regardless of the myriad reasons why an amended partnership tax return may be required, it could result in a significant impact on all of the partners. Considering that there are new rules and procedures to effect a change to the tax return with the new Form 1065X as well as revisions to Form 8082, Notice of Inconsistent Treatment of Administrative Adjustment Request (“AAR”), careful consideration must be given to filing this type of amended return.

Even Though the Federal Government is Shut Down, Your Tax Compliance is Still Required

Although the Federal government shutdown has left most Federal agencies such as the IRS operating on very limited resources or entirely shut down, it is important for taxpayers to be aware that all tax returns and tax payments are still expected to be filed on time, in spite of the fact that tax refunds will be delayed (but you’ll get interest after 45 days) and support from the IRS is severely limited.
