RI Governor Signs FY2016 Budget

On June 30, 2015 Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo signed the state’s $8.67 billion FY2016 budget, which became effective as of July 1. The General Assembly had previously overwhelmingly approved the tax-and-spend legislation that, according to the governor, is “intended to increase education spending for the state's youngest school children, trim the tax bill for many retirees and spur job growth.”

Rhode Island’s FY2016 Budget Proposal Designed to Spark Comeback for State with High Unemployment

Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo’s proposed $8.63 billion FY2016 budget, released March 12, 2015, has been described as a “forward-looking, balanced budget proposal rooted in the belief that every hardworking person deserves the chance to make it in Rhode Island.” Her budget, which is aimed at building skills, attracting entrepreneurs and investment, and fostering innovation, offers significant investments in growth and no broad-based tax increases. It also closes an inherited $190 million deficit.
